 The
82nd Regular Meeting of the Directing Council of the IIN –its political
organ composed of the government representatives of the 34 OAS Member
States– will be held next 26 and 27 July in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia.
The Institute is the Specialized Organization responsible for the promotion
and protection of children's rights in the region through a family and
community-based approach.

Insulza visited the Office of the Inter-American Children's Institute (IIN)
on 13 June, 2007
Coinciding
with the celebration of the eighty years of the IIN creation on 9 June, 1927
the OAS Secretary General, Dr. José Miguel Insulza visited the headquarters
of the Institute. . |
Last
9 June the Inter-American Children's Institute celebrated its 80th
Anniversary.
During
its 80-year life the Institute always tackled the issues related to
children and their families in an integral manner and through a
right-based approach.

"World Day
Against Child Labour", Debate on Child Labour in Uruguay: Actual Situation,
Challenges, and Opportunities
On the occasion
of celebrating the World Day Against Child Labour, the Director General of the
IIN, Maria de los Dolores Aguilar Marmolejo, participated as lecturer during the
Debate organized by the National Committee for the Eradication of Child Labour (CETI)
of Uruguay. As a way of supporting the activities developed by CETI, at the
opening of this debate the IIN launched its new video "Close/Far Away." This
video was also distributed among all Ministers and High-level Authorities on
Child Affairs who participated in the "IX Ibero American Conference" held last
May in Pucon, Chile, for further dissemination. |

During
the Conference the Director General of the IIN, María
de los Dolores Aguilar lectured on "Constructing
the National Child System."

 On 18 May, the
Inter-American Children's Institute and The Hague Conference on Private
International Law shared a working day within the cooperation framework
established between both organizations, with the participation of Ignacio
Goicoechea, HCCH Liaison Counsel for Latin
America; María
Dolores Aguilar, Director General of the IIN, and Jorge
Valladares, IIN Legal Advisor, for the purpose of coordinating
operational issues related to the next Meeting on International Child
Abduction to be held on September 2007.
