The OAS Permanent Council designates as "Specialized Inter-American Conference" the 20th Pan-American Child Congress
On April 21, during the Regular Session of the Permanent Council of the Organization of American States (OAS), they agreed to designate as "Specialized Inter-American Conference" the Twentieth Pan American Child Congress, to be held in Lima, Peru, 22 to 25 September this year.
The Specialized Conferences are intergovernmental meetings to deal with special technical matters or to develop specific aspects of inter-American cooperation. They shall be held when either the OAS General Assembly or the Meeting of Consultation of Ministers of Foreign Affairs so decides, on its own initiative or at the request of one of the Councils or Specialized Organizations.
The Pan-American Child Congress, organ of the Inter-American Children’s Institute, is an inter-American ministerial meeting, with the participation of delegates of each state that should be Ministers, Secretaries of State or other senior government officials with competence on the relevant subject-matter in their respective states, with the purpose of promoting the exchange of experience, knowledge and agreements among Member States of the Inter-American System
The declaration of the XX Pan American Child Congress as Specialized Inter-American Conference will give an even higher technical and political profile to the event, and will therefore give and additional potential to the political guidelines and agreements adopted, which will benefit the children of the States of the Hemisphere.
It is recalled that on April 22, 2009 is the 60th anniversary of the incorporation of the IIN as Specialized Organization of the OAS.
